We will plan school-wide activities such as Diversity Week and advisory materials that analyze “normal” barriers between groups, help celebrate our diversity, and promote unity, harmony and mutual understanding.
We participate in events sponsored by Kean University’s Diversity Council of New Jersey—a performance on diversity in the winter plus a conference for middle school students from around the state in the spring—as well as plan school-wide activities such as Mix It Up Day. These events not only focus on diversity issues, but also allow the students to learn essential “life skills” such as leadership, project planning, teamwork and organization. We create advisory materials that analyze “normal” barriers between groups, help celebrate diversity, and promote unity, harmony and mutual understanding. We meet on a weekly basis to discuss prejudice and diversity issues at Heritage Middle School and in the lives of our students.
This year-long club is for students who are interested in crossing social barriers and trying something new. This is a club that lasts for the whole school year, so anyone can join the club!
