World Language

MIDDLE SCHOOL
At Mount Pleasant Middle School, grade six students may continue the study of Spanish, or choose to begin the study of French. World language classes meet every other day.

At Heritage Middle School students continue the study of Spanish or French or may begin the study of Italian or Chinese. World language classes meet daily.

Emphasis in beginning a world language is on listening, speaking, reading, and writing through use of imitation, repetition, contemporary dialogues, and narrations. Students are introduced to cultural nuances, similarities, and differences.

HIGH SCHOOL
All four World Language programs (Spanish, French, Italian and Chinese) at Livingston High School focus on the acquisition of communication skills and cultural knowledge. They encompass the NJCCCS, which address the need to prepare students for an interdependent global environment. Our four language programs address standards 7.1 which encompasses language and culture. Students are taught and assessed in the three modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal and presentational). These indicate progress in a student’s ability to understand, interact and produce the target language.

Visit the LHS World Language Department website for a complete listing of course offerings.
