May 2013
While reading our books, we will be involved in book talks and continue to use writing as a way to think about reading. We will focus on strategies to support reading comprehension.
We will determine central ideas or themes as we read as well as analyze the development of these themes. Once readers are able to recognize themes, we will compare them and see how they are developed in different texts.
The students will continue to read their fiction books independently at their independent level. We touch upon the elements of fiction through their independent reading such as characterization, problem-solution, setting, plot, and theme.
I will be conferring with the students independently on a regular basis.
Homework:
1. Read 20-25 minutes daily and record in log.
2. Write a response in your reading journal.
