LPS Middle Schools Excel in NJ Math League Competition
In this year's New Jersey Math League (NJML) competition, Mt. Pleasant Middle School finished first in the state and the county, with sixth grader Hadrian Zheng taking first place in the state in the individual competition! In addition, Heritage Middle School's 7th grade team earned third place in the state and second place in the county, while the 8th grade team came in second place in both the state and the county.
The New Jersey Math League is a competition in which students answer challenging math questions that expand upon their knowledge of Pre-Algebra (grade 6 competition), Algebra (grade 7 competition) and Geometry (grade 8 competition).
For the 6th grade division, students signed up to take part in the competition that was held after school. For 7th and 8th grade, the competitions were administered in Alaina Burrows' Algebra 1 classes in grade 7 and Gary Silverman's Geometry classes in grade 8.
The top five scores make up the team score. The individual student names and team scores are submitted to the New Jersey Math League, where students' team and individual scores are then compared to scores from teams and students at the regional and state level.
