HMS Takes on Technology at TSA Competition
Heritage Middle School students recently joined nearly 1,000 students from around New Jersey at the Technology Student Association (TSA) Conference at The College of New Jersey. The TSA aims to accelerate student achievement and support teachers by providing engaging opportunities to develop STEM skills. Students are challenged to use and improve their STEM skills in TSA competitions. Team and individual events focus on such areas as: technology, communication, design and engineering, environmental systems, transportation, and manufacturing. All competitions are aligned with STEM standards, leadership skills, and the U.S. Department of Education's National Career Clusters Framework®.
Several HMS students won awards in the competition, including five first place trophies. The following is a list of the winners and the awards that they received:
- Sophia Chiparus, Matt Ho, and Jeffery Xu placed second in Biotechnology
- Rahul Shah and Matt Zhang placed second in Challenging Technology Issues
- Annie Shen and Kathleen Zhang placed first in Childrens’ Stories & Problem Solving
- Heainz Manoj and Max Pritsiolas placed first and second in Dragster Design
- Heainz Manoj and Jeffery Xu placed first and second in Electrical Applications
- Sophia Chiparus and Mariana Seedhom placed second and third in Essays on Technology
- Tyler Coney, Jacob Davis and Kevin Liao placed third in Leadership Strategies
- Laurenz Canent, Zacharie Canent and Jarius Lee placed second in Mass Production
- Anna Wiener placed first in Prepared Speech
- Matthew Lam and Adarsh Patel placed first in Structural Engineering
- Ben Akyureklier, Benjamin Brea, and Rushil Dutta placed third in System Control Technology.
