Hello, Hillside Families!
I hope you are enjoying the weekend and finding a way to stay cool in this heat wave!
Thursday evening's Multicultural Night was absolutely wonderful! We had 18 countries represented, a record high, and enjoyed learning about each and having some great food and treats! Special thanks to the Multicultural Night Committee Chair, Mrs. Anita Balogh, and other parent volunteers, for coordinating the event and to all the families who hosted a table and represented their cultures! I had a lot of fun and hope you did, too!
The NJSLA concludes this week with two days of Science assessments for our fifth graders and testing for any outstanding make-ups. Our students have worked hard over the last couple of weeks in trying their best, and we are most proud! Thanks to families for their support, and we look forward to wrapping things up successfully!
Calling all Spring Fundraiser Teacher/Staff Basket Winners! Families who won a staff basket are encouraged to reach out to staff as soon as possible so that the activities can be scheduled. If you are unsure of how to do that, please contact Gina in the main office at gioviero@livingston.org and she will help you facilitate that communication. Thanks so much!
We have our Spring Concert this Thursday. Our fourth and fifth graders who participate in chorus, orchestra and band will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills at both the school rehearsal for the student body, and then the evening performance at Heritage at 7:00 p.m. We look forward to it!
We have our next Student Council School Spirit Day on Thursday. In observance of Memorial Day, students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue! Also on Thursday, our Student Council will host its annual Character Colors Wars Assembly as we prepare for Wall Decorating and Field Day! Families will be notified soon of which pillar students are assigned to for these events, so that they can prepare the appropriate shirt color to wear. Stay tuned and thanks, in advance!
In addition to the Spring Concert and Character Color Wars Assembly, Thursday will bring a change in school leadership for the day. "Principal for a Day" basket winners, Ashley and Ethan Litsky, will take the reins as co-principals for the day! I am certain they will do an amazing job and I look forward to the day off! 😉
GT Art and GT Music applications for the 22-23 school year are now available for interested third and fourth grade students (the program is for fourth and fifth graders). Applications are due May 26. Complete information can be found here.
School Supply Kits for the 22-23 school year are now available for purchase! This convenient service saves parents the potential hassle of shopping for school supplies during the summer, especially late August when everyone else is doing it, too! Interested families can find information here. Given that this is optional, of course, the second page in the attached has the itemized supply list for those who would prefer to purchase on their own. Please note that the purchase window ends July 1. Special thanks to Hillside parents, Mrs. Lauro and Mrs. Abramowitz, for coordinating the process with us! Thank you!
You may have noticed some activity on the playground over the weekend…that's our new playground piece in the process of being installed! This is a long time coming, and we are super excited about the project and look forward to its completion! Thanks, again, to the Hillside PTA for funding this project and to Hillside dad, Mr. Glomb, for coordinating installation with other parents, and to the parents who volunteered to do it! We appreciate all of you!

REMINDER MESSAGES
1) May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Inspired by our dining fundraisers and in observance of NPFS Month, Pyramid Youth and Adult Fitness (also owned by a Hillside family!) is donating 10% of package sessions purchased to the PTA. This is an ongoing offer, but please be sure to mention Hillside School! A flyer was sent home last week and can also be found here.
2) Note to fifth grade families: For your planning purposes, the Moving Up Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 16, starting at 8:30 a.m. There is currently a rain date of Monday, June 20. This may not be needed if the event is held indoors; the final decision regarding an indoor or outdoor event will be made by June 1. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
3) May is also Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Last year, Hillside School collaborated with two Livingston High School clubs to create a fun experience for students that included listening to stories written by and about Asian and Pacific Island cultures, and watching and learning a traditional Filipino dance. We plan to host a similar event this year and are working with the LHS clubs to finalize a date and activities. Stay tuned!
4) District subscription bus transportation information is now available and can be found here. Please note that there are two documents in the folder; a letter from the district with information and the application. This service is available for in-district students only. Applications are due by July 1.

Regarding lunch ordering, lunch orders can no longer be placed for this upcoming week. Lunch orders for the week of May 30 can now be placed. The May lunch menu can be found here. The June menu will be sent to families as soon as we receive it.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy the week ahead and the long weekend! Don't forget that there's no school on Friday!
Best regards,
Mr. Gramata
P.S. All of my messages are posted on the school's site under "Principal's Messages" for easy future reference.
P.P.S. Please be sure to review the calendar below with each new message as events/activities are sometimes added, deleted and/or changed.
