Hello, Hillside Families!

 

I hope you're enjoying the long weekend!

 

As you know, in observance of Election Day, the student body held its own election last week to pick this year's Field Day theme.  The choices were four–Superheros, Sports Day, Fun in the Sun and Dr. Seuss–and, our huskies selected Sports Day as the theme!  Special thanks to the Student Council for arranging this special election and to our students for exercising their right to vote!

 

Tomorrow is a Delayed Opening for students. Doors open for students at 9:30, and they should arrive at school by 9:55 a.m.  All before school activities are canceled, lunch will be scheduled and served, and there are no changes to dismissal or scheduled after school programs.

 

Monday is Veterans Day, and we are excited to welcome veterans from the local American Legion, who will hold a special assembly to talk about their service with our third, fourth and fifth graders.  Our students have also prepared questions for the veterans to answer.  Special thanks to Mrs. Veneroso for coordinating this visit.  And, on behalf of Hillside School, I thank all those who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces to protect our freedoms and keep our country safe.  We are grateful to you.

 

Wednesday is World Kindness Day. Hillside will observe the day with a lesson created by our school counselor, Mrs. Bowe.  The lesson will explain to students the benefits and importance of being kind, and will culminate by challenging students to perform five acts of kindness.  These acts can also be shown at home, so please ask your children about their kindness count when they get home on Wednesday!  They may owe you!

 

We have our monthly PTA meeting on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.  Please see the calendar below for the Zoom link.  

 

On Friday, our Student Council will host its monthly assembly.  The group will discuss the character pillar of Citizenship, Huskies of the Month will be recognized, Hank and Holly will be awarded to their next homes, and we will have a special visit from LHS' Green Team, who will present about recycling to our students.  Looking forward to it!
