Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Chani Levine

I am excited to get to know all of you and I am sure you want to know about me so here goes...
I am a wife, mother, sister, daughter and teacher.   I am originally from NJ and lived in Livingston since age 10.  I am a proud graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!) where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Disorders, followed by a Master of Arts (Magna Cum Laude) from NYU in Health Studies and Deafness Rehabilitation.  My education was furthered at Montclair State University where I completed special education coursework and received my NJ Teacher Certification.  I began my education career as a teacher and interpreter for hearing impaired middle and high school students at a private special education school.  Afterward, I moved to the public school system teaching at Alexander Street School in Newark, NJ.  It is now my 22nd year teaching at Hillside School where I've taught 1st, 2nd and 5th grades.  Social Studies and math are my FAVORITE subjects.
My personal life includes my husband Peter, whom I met at the University of Florida.  We have 2 sons--Jordan (18) and Zachary (15).  We are all huge Florida Gator fans!  You will see lots of trinkets, decals and magnets in my classroom.  If you bump into me around town on a Saturday in the Fall, it is guaranteed I will be wearing one of my Gator sweatshirts.
Everyone has varied interests.  When I am not teaching or spending time with my family, mine include traveling, outdoor exercise, history trivia, watching football (college and pro) and fashion.  I LOVE to read about and visit far away places in the world, learn their historical significance and enjoy their beauty.  Teaching about my travel experiences enhances all our understanding of the world around us.
I hope you enjoyed learning a little about me and I look forward to learning about you all as the year progresses.  Welcome aboard!!!
