This Month In Kindergarten...September:Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Riker Hill! It was a very exciting month here in KINDERGARTEN! The children learned new routines for navigating our classrooms. We talked about our feelings and how we got ready for kindergarten. We discussed and decided on class rules that will keep us safe, happy and healthy at school. We began to build our classroom and Kindergarten 'RAMily' communities by having our first K RAMily meeting. This is a time for all kindergarten students to come together to share, learn and celebrate! Be sure to ask your child to fill you in on each day's exciting events."You're off to great places, today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!" - Dr. SeussOctoberThis month in kindergarten, we enjoyed a special 'Fire Safety' assembly presented by our very own Livingston Fire Department. The children met some of our real-life heroes and learned fire safety tips like how to check your smoke detectors every month and how to create an exit plan and meeting place. After a discussion, the children colored, cut and sorted 'safe' and 'unsafe' choices. We also learned all about pumpkins and how they grow. We learned about life cycles! After learning the steps in the life cycle, the children practiced fine motor skills by coloring, cutting and gluing them in order. We shared a K Ramily meeting and read the book Too Many Pumpkins."In a world full of pop heroes, fantasy heroes, and sports heroes, we should never forget to look at the real heroes for real courage, real strength, and real stories."- Steve NethercottNovember"I follow three rules: Do the right thing, do the best you can, and always show people you care."-Lou Holtz
