    Dear Families,

It was such a wonderful close to the school year!

Our Kindergarten and Fifth grade school students ended the school year with their Kindergarten-Fifth grade Buddy Trip to the Turtle Back Zoo.  It was a fantastic trip for our students.  It was such a lovely way to end the school year and celebrate the special relationships between our fifth graders and kindergarten students.

Our Kindergarteners also presented their spring Kindergarten play.  I am so proud of our students for all of their hard work and preparation.  The performance was wonderful and the kids sounded great.  Bravo!  Thank you to our kindergarten teachers for helping our students prepare for the show.

Collins kids also participated in our first ever “Fun in the Sun” event.  It was a spectacular afternoon!  We raised over $6000 which will be going directly to our Kindness Garden initiative.  Thank you to Mr. Purdue, Mrs. Lichtstein, Mrs. Becker and Mrs. Marrache for organizing such a fun event.   Miss Fiore’s class raised the highest amount of donations so they lead our school in stretches before the event.  We will be recognizing the other students who earned prizes in the new school year.

Thank you to Mrs. Kalish and Mrs. Sultan for putting together our school yearbook.  This is a huge undertaking and we appreciate all of your efforts.

Please take a look at the attached letter from Ms. Widzinski.  We encourage all of our students to participate in our summer reading program.   We ask that all students share their reading adventure and answer the question, “Where Does Reading Take You.”  Students are asked to share one book that they have read over the summer by completing the postcard that was sent home on the last day of school.  Students should bring their postcard on the first day of school.  If you need another copy you can print one with the attached document.

You might have heard from your child, but at our “End of the Year Pep Rally” we debuted our new Collins logo.  We are so excited for this new logo.  Thank you to our art teacher, Ms. Stein, for creating our new logo.  In September students are going to help us name our mascot.  Keep an eye out for our new logo and for our mascot’s name.

Thank you to all of our parents who participated in our school this year as class parents.  And thank you for utilizing our new Class Party Food Permission slip process and your partnership with Mrs. Gould.  This process helps all parents get the information that they need about class parties and also helps our students stay safe.

I hope all of our students have a wonderful summer home with their families.  I encourage them to go outside to play, spend time with friends and their family, and to sleep late!  The best way for any student to prepare for the next school year is to read every day, spend time writing letters to friends and families or writing about what they are reading, and to practice some math facts or problem solving.  A little practice each day will help them to keep their skills sharp for the new school year.

Take a look at our school website or our Twitter feed this summer to find out what is happening at Collins.   Follow us on Twitter at:   @CollinsElemSch or https://twitter.com/CollinsElemSch.

In closing, I would like to thank the Collins community for the warm welcome I have received this year.  It is such an honor to lead such a dynamic learning community.  I appreciate the partnership I’ve had with parents in bringing the best for our students.

    Have an amazing week,

    Dear Families,

We had a great short week at Collins!  Congratulations to all of our musicians who performed during our Spring Concert.  It was an awesome show!  Your hard work paid off!  Also, a big thank you to all of the parents who spent time volunteering during Champion’s Day.  Your assistance helped to make the day a success!

Please keep a look out for Class Party Food Permission slips that will be coming home prior to class parties.  Class parents will be completing these forms, after clearing food items with Mrs. Gould.  These will be sent home with students so that each child’s parent can be better informed about the food items which may be served during a class party.  Parents can indicate if there are any items they would not like their child to eat at the party.  Parents can provide an alternative snack for those items, if they would like to do so.  Any parents who are interested in getting more information and would like to see the food labels can contact Mrs. Gould.  Please be sure to send these permission slips back as early as possible.

Please remember that during drop off in the morning parents may not get out of their cars.  This creates a safety issue.  Also remember, please pull all the way up in our drop off line and  follow all safety rules when driving (please do not text or make illegal U-Turns).

    Dear Families,

    Dear Families,

    Happy Friday!

It has been a busy few weeks at Collins as our fourth and fifth grade students finished taking the PARCC test.  Students in grade three will continue to take the test into next week.  Remember that the best way to prepare is by getting a good night of sleep and eating breakfast.

Please see the attached letter on our process for class placement for the 2018-2019 school year.

Also, please see the traffic reminders on the email below.

    • Students should exit the car on the passenger side door on their own during drop off.
    • Parents should not exit the vehicle.  If you need to exit the vehicle during drop to assist your child out of the car, please find street parking and park to do so.  Do not exit the vehicle in the drop off area.
    • According to the LPD, if you are parking your car you must park 12 feet from a crosswalk.
    • Please be sure to drive carefully when dropping off students.  Please avoid texting or using a handheld device as it is unsafe and is distracting when driving.
