    Dear Fifth Grade Students & Parents, 

    Greetings from Mrs. Marshall welcome to fifth grade! I hope you have enjoyed your summer and are excited to begin your last year in elementary school. I look forward to making it a memorable one, which will include both positive learning experiences, as well as preparation for middle school. This is my fourteenth year teaching at Hillside. Prior to Livingston, I taught in New York City for four years. I had a relaxing summer, including time spent with family and friends and fun at both the pool and the beach! 

    5th grade is a special year because it is the first year that you will have different teachers throughout the day for different subject areas. The 5th grade team would like to take the opportunity to explain how this works. Mrs. Marshall and Mrs. Veneroso will both be your teachers for reading and writing.  Mrs. Marshall will also be your teacher for science and social studies. Mrs. Gribbon and Mrs. Shalom will be your teachers for math. Please be assured that we all work together to assist you in keeping track of your assignments and responsibilities. To support your academic success, you will be using a binder system and agenda book (homework notebook) to help keep you organized! 

    Please consider the following as you prepare for the first day of school on Thursday, September 1st. 

    • We have a new schedule this year!  Our day begins at 7:55 and ends at 2:42.  Try to get back on “Hillside Time.” This might mean going to sleep or waking up a little earlier than usual. 

    • Be prepared for our first day together with all of your school supplies.  For those of you who did not order a toolbox kit, a supply list is available on the Hillside homepage.  A copy of the list can also be found on our webpage.  

    • Please make sure to pack a small, healthy snack every day.  

    • Please bring a book you are currently reading on the first day of school. 

    The 5th grade team hopes you have enjoyed your summer and are excited to begin your last year at Hillside. We look forward to getting to know you and helping you reach your goals. We cannot wait to begin a memorable and rewarding year!
