LEF - The Outdoor Classroom Project and Garden-based Learning
A partnership has been formed between LEF and the MPE Garden Team, their partners and affiliates, and as autonomous entities to support The Outdoor Classroom Project and Garden-based Learning.
The Outdoor Classroom will serve as a K-12 initiative that provides a sustainable, innovative and organic learning environment that will meet the individual needs of the current school community.
The long term goal of the Livingston Education Foundation is to build an Outdoor Classroom/Garden model that can eventually be transplanted across the district while maintaining the successful integrity of the organic and invitational approach fostered at MPE.
The short term goal is to support a pilot model in partnership with MPE through their Garden Committee’s current and future efforts to use an invitational approach to create an organic, collaborative integrative method to learning across the current curriculum, and across grades that is intrinsically built into the Garden and by extension the Outdoor Classroom; as well as,
To support the creation of an Outdoor Classroom /Garden and/or related current curriculum at each of nine Livingston Public Schools while maintaining the successful integrity of the organic and invitational approach fostered at MPE.
It is the intention of the Livingston Education Foundation to invite as stake holders members of the Township Livingston Environmental Committee (LEC) as partners to include the interests of the Township related to initiatives supporting environmental education and a community garden. This might include sharing of the MPE Garden Model, as well as working on strategic fund-raising alternatives, such as grants, that look to support combined efforts of school and community and more.
