• Health/Physical Education Department

The health and physical education program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve a healthy, active lifestyle, while fostering positive attitudes toward maintaining health and wellness throughout their lifespan.  Students are scheduled for one marking period of health education and three marking periods of physical education for each year of attendance in the high school.

Course offerings vary by marking period and grade level; adjustments to offerings may be made due to facilities, staff availability and class size considerations.  All units are in compliance with Title IX and equally accessible for boys and girls.

Health and physical education are a mandated graduation requirement, and there are specific requirements for content units and time allocation.  We have developed our program curriculum using the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards and Legislative Statutes as appropriate.  Parents with questions or concerns about topics in the health education program are encouraged to seek out and ask questions of the teachers and school administrative team.  Any child whose parent or guardian presents to the school principal a signed statement that any part of the instruction in health, family life education or disease prevention (HIV) education is in conflict with his/her conscience, or sincerely held moral or religious beliefs, shall be excused from that portion of the course where such instruction is being given and no penalties as to credit or graduation shall result therefrom. The request for exemption may be found on the department webpage (NJSA 18A:35-4.7).
