Testing, Data Assessment and Accountability

    Update on NJSLA Changes for Spring 2019

    • Test has been re-named to the NJSLA (NJ Student Learning Assessment) – ELA/Math/Science
      • ELA & Math still administered grades 3-11
      • Science still administered grades 5, 8, 11
    • Reduction in testing times – both in the number of testing units as well as in number of problems, resulting in shorter unit time. (see attachment for details)
      • Livingston will have reduced duration of testing units.
      • Livingston will also benefit from the reduction in number of units for Math.  However we have been selected to administer the field test in ELA so there are still three units of testing for ELA this year.
    • Graduation requirements for the Classes of 2019 and 2020 have been clarified (see attachment for details)
      • Students graduating as members of the Classes of 2019 and 2020 can meet graduation assessment requirements through any of these three pathways:
        • (1) Achieve passing scores on high school level NJSLA/PARCC assessments;
        • (2) Achieve scores defined in the table below on alternative assessments such as the SAT, ACT, or ACCUPLACER; or
        • (3) Submit, through the district, a student portfolio appeal to the NJDOE.
    • Reduction in the weight of NJSLA scores as a percentage of teacher evaluation

    Livingston Public Schools believes that assessment is an integral component of good teaching and essential to understanding student learning. From the embedded formative assessments that every teacher uses daily to the structure of standardized assessments, it is our philosophy that gathering and analyzing these data help us to continually improve our work of teaching and learning.
    In accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:L7C-6.6, please be advised that the calendar below informs you of the State assessments or commercially-developed standardized assessment that will be administered to LPS students in the 2018-2019 school year.
    In addition, the following calendar provides a graphical representation of the PARCC administration.
