As we work together to plan for the future of our schools, community input and transparency are our top priorities. We have created a Referendum Resources webpage that will serve as the central repository for all official materials, data, and updates discussed during Board of Education meetings as we approach the upcoming referendum vote.
Currently on the page you will find the most recent demographic studies and the Referendum Options that were presented to the Board on June 9, 2026. We will continue to add information. We encourage all residents to explore these resources, stay informed, and engage with us throughout this collaborative process.
LPS MONTH OF AWARENESS
Dear LPS Parents,
I hope your children have enjoyed a fantastic start to the 2026 - 2027 school year! As September comes to a close, we are eager to transition into the exciting programs planned for October. I am thrilled to invite you to join us as we begin our annual LPS Month of Awareness, featuring meaningful events and initiatives in every one of our schools.
Our Month of Awareness reaffirms the fundamental traits detailed in ourLPS Portrait of a Graduate. This framework is our guide to teach students to build conscientious friendships, achieve balanced lives, practice thoughtful communication, and develop collaborative leadership skills.
In step with school districts statewide, Livingston Public Schools will commemorate The Week of Respect alongside School Violence Awareness Week. As part of these statewide efforts, our schools are proudly signing the pledge to go Gold and Blue (#NJGoesGoldandBlue) to demonstrate our active commitment to positive school climates. These observances reflect our continuous devotion to creating safe, inclusive, and welcoming educational spaces where kindness and respect thrive. Additionally, we will participate in National Red Ribbon Week, empowering our youth to commit to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
All month long, students will experience activities, lessons and discussions surrounding internet safety, digital citizenship, appreciating diversity, and our student code of conduct. We are also proud to partner with our community liaison officers from the Livingston Police Department, who will join us in leading these vital safety dialogues.
For specific information from your child’s building, please explore theLivingston Public Schools’ Month of Awareness website. While October brings these topics to the forefront, we will continue these essential lessons and themes throughout the entire school year and invite you to reinforce these meaningful conversations at home.
Thank you,

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS REPRESENT USA AT TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Three LPS students, Emma Yang (HMS, 8th Grade) , Yug Sinha (MPM, 6th Grade) and Aaron Li ( MPM, 6th Grade), represented the United States at the 2026 ITTF Americas U11 & U13 Championships, held September 9–16 in Katy, Texas. After a week-long competition against top young players from across the Americas, Emma earned Gold in the U13 Girls’ Team event and Silver in U13 Mixed Doubles, and Yug won Bronze in the U11 Boys’ Team event. Established in 2021, the ITTF Americas U11 & U13 Championships provide young athletes with valuable international competition experience and an important step in the player-development pathway every year since. This year, the United States finished the championships with 14 gold, 11 silver and 18 bronze medals across 14 events.
The 2026 U.S. U11 & U13 Junior National Teams consist of eight boys and eight girls in each age group. Team members were selected based on the total points they earned across four national events held between January and July 2026: Junior National Ranking Tournaments I and II, their best Regional Championship result, and the U.S. Nationals for U11 and U13 players.
FIRST PLACE IN PIANO COMPETITION
Audrey Ma, a second-grade student at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, earned first place in both the Elementary Solo and Concerto categories in the 2026 Carmel Klavier International Piano Competition. This annual event featured over 200 outstanding young pianists from all over the world. Audrey decided to donate her cash prize to several music-related foundations. She hopes to inspire other young musicians and share her music with the wider community.
Milestone pin presentations at LPS are meant to be personal moments of gratitude, but the pride our staff members carry every day is something worth sharing with our whole community! We invited our team to snap a selfie with their milestone pins, and we put together a short video with the ones we received to highlight their years of service and dedication to our schools.

LPS takes school security very seriously and follows all of the safety protocols that are practiced regularly with the Livingston Police Department. These protocols include school lockdowns, which are a vital safety procedure to protect everyone in the building. They can be used for a wide range of situations, including medical emergencies, to ensure the well-being of all students and staff. Parents have a part to play in school lockdown safety as well!
5 WAYS THAT PARENTS CAN HELP DURING A LOCKDOWN SITUATION:
Try Not to Panic: It's easy to assume the worst when a school goes on lockdown, but there are many reasons why lockdowns are enacted for the safety of students and staff. Remain calm for both yourself and your child.
Check Texts/Emails: The district will send out a notification when a lockdown is enacted, as well as updates, and a notification when a lockdown is lifted via text and email. Make sure that your emergency contact information is up to date in the Genesis Portal.
Don't Share Lockdown Info on Social Media: In most cases, detailed information and transparency are good things, but they can be harmful during situations that cause schools to lockdown.
Don't Call the School: During lockdowns, every staff member has a job to do to contriubute to a safe and positive outcome. Fielding phone calls distracts from these responsibilities.
Don't Go to the School: During a lockdown situation, schools are not accessible and the law enforcement officers need to focus on the situation, not crowd control.
*We appreciate that these situations can be upsetting for those involved. Please know each of our schools have counselors that are available to help students process any thoughts or feelings they are experiencing following a lockdown situation.
PARENT CONCERN PROCESS
Livingston Public Schools strives to respond to concerns and/or questions as quickly and effectively as possible. In a school system, as in any organization, the “chain of command” refers to communication levels of authority in the school district. The philosophy behind the chart in the link below is to refer community members to those people in the organization who can best solve any concerns or questions that may arise, and then direct them to the appropriate people if issues are not able to be effectively addressed at the first level.
LPS World Language Supervisor Gabriela Colon and School Board member Fang Gong had a wonderful evening at the Livingston Chinese Association's (LCA) The Sound of Harvest annual concert. This is the third consecutive year that the LCA has supported this celebration, which brings together musicians from different cultures, musical traditions, and generations.
