The Livingston High School Academic Team recently competed at the Garden Cup tournament held at Rutgers University. Forty-eight teams of four students each from NJ, NY, PA and Connecticut, competed at the event. In all, 27 high schools were represented.
Livingston brought six teams of 24 total students and four moderators to the competition.
Livingston’s “A” team consisting of Lelun (Alan) Li, Kevin Zhang, Sophia Wu and captain Bobby Wang defeated the only previously undefeated team elite private high school Choate (Rosemary Hall) from Connecticut, 400-275, in the finals to win the competition in an exciting, competitive final.
In addition to the “A” team, Livingston’s “B” team, consisting of captain Akshat Thakur, Nishna Makala, Aditya Jatania and Arav Kaushik, finished in 11th place. The “D” team, consisting of Ben Silversten, Ethan Liu, Keshav Gollamudi and Sophia Zheng, finished in 12th place.
Individually, sophomore captain Bobby Wang was the highest overall scorer of the day out of all competitors. Also, Akshat Thakur, Arav Kaushik, Sophia Wu and Sophia Zheng all finished in the top 20 overall scorers.
“In addition, the other LHS students competing, many of whom were competing for the first time, competed well, learned a lot and had a lot of fun competing, learning while representing Livingston. A fun day was had by all!” said LHS Academic Team advisor, Guy Rabner.
