Poetry Out Loud Winner!

On Thursday, February 9th, Daila Kim (Class of '26) won the Poetry Out Loud Region 5 Contest at the South Orange Performing Arts Center. As the LHS school-wide winner, Daila was among nine competitors from high schools across Essex County and Union County. Students presented memorized recitations of three different poems over the course of three rounds. Daila advanced to the State Championship, which will be held at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in March. Her teachers, Dr. Michael Sunga (Public Speaking & Debate), Mr. Tim Callahan (English 1 Honors), and Ms. Jackie Pascale (Community Period) attended the event. Also cheering her on in the audience were Daila's classmates from Public Speaking and English. Mr. Kevin Wittmaack (7-12 English/Language Arts Supervisor) is the LHS Poetry Out Loud coordinator.
