HMS Musicians Earn Top Honors at Virtual Festival
This winter, 12 students from Heritage Middle School participated in the inaugural New Jersey Solo and Ensemble Festival, which was presented by ArtsEdNJ. This virtual festival saw the young musicians perform solos, which were adjudicated by top performers and educators from around the country. Each student received a rating and commentary to help further aid in their growth.
The participating students were: Arjun Bansal, tenor saxophone; Calvin Chiou, piano and viola; Julie Chua, piano; Aarav George, alto saxophone; Rhea Kareparambil, guitar; Phoebe Liu, cello; Jenya Narang, voice; Ashley Peng, flute and voice; Anirudh Srivastava, alto saxophone; Jaden Tang, trumpet; Carolyn Wang, voice; and Jenny Zhu, violin.
Four students received a ranking of Level 1, including Arjun Bansal, Calvin Chiou (piano), Phoebe Liu, and Jaden Tang. Ashley Peng (flute) received the highest ranking, Level 1*, and has been invited to perform at the State Festival this spring.
"Congratulations to all the students who participated for their extra efforts and for furthering their musical development," said Mr. Brendan Hughes, HMS Instrumental & General Music Teacher.
