    VISION SCREENINGS:

All students in grades K, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 are screened for vision.  Students may also be screened if the parent, teacher, or nurse has a concern about a vision problem, for assessments and evaluations, and as needed.

    UNDERSTANDING YOUR CHILD'S VISION RESULTS:

Livingston Public Schools uses a photoscreening digital device called a SPOT Vision Screener to objectively look for vision problems.  The Screener is like a large camera and it takes a picture of your child’s eyes.  With the picture and the infrared measurements, the SPOT can detect a number of eye conditions.

If your child’s results form states “‘Complete Eye Exam Recommended”, it is a referral and we recommend that your child visit an eye care professional. You may also see a section on the right side of the page called “Potential Condition.”  This includes information about a potential eye condition detected by the Spot Screener.  It will state the medical terminology followed by a short description in brackets in non-technical language. At the bottom of the sheet, you will see a chart that shows the conditions that the Spot can detect. For each condition, it shows whether your child’s results were within the normal range or out-of-range, and how severe the condition may be if out-of-range.
