NJ Health Insurance Requirement

  • Children Under the Age of 18 are Required to Have Health Care Coverage

On July 7, insurance2008, Governor Jon S. Corzine signed a law that, among other things, requires all residents of New Jersey, under the age of 18, to have health care coverage that provides hospital and medical benefits. This requirement becomes effective on July 7, 2009. (P.L. 2008, c. 38) Coverage may be provided through an employer-sponsored or individual health benefits plan, the Medicaid program, NJ FamilyCare program, or the NJ FamilyCare Advantage buy-in program.

Access to quality, affordable health care contributes, not only to the health, safety, and well being of children, but also ensures that children may participate in the educational opportunities available to them.
