Date: Friday, September 25thTime: 1:45 P.M.Place: New GymAttendees: Staff and Students of Harrison SchoolEvent: Annual Pep Rally! This year's theme -- designed to build on the positive community that already exists at Harrison -- is Kindness and Mindfulness. After an opening featuring the world famous (well, maybe not world famous, but they should be!) Harrison Cheerleaders, four skits performed by 4th and 5th graders demonstrated the importance of being mindful and making kind decisions during the school day -- whether on line, in the classroom, in the cafeteria, or on the playground. The cheerleaders returned to lead everyone in the motions of the central chant: STOP, BREATHE, THINK, DECIDE, ACT! The pep rally ended with slow, silent movement exercises designed to center participants and help them achieve calm mindfulness. As this initiative will continue throughout the year, we invite families to talk about mindfulness and kindness, and share stories about these themes together. Here are links to two of the stories shared in the classrooms: Because Amelia Smiled by David Ezra Stein, and Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson. View the photo gallery below, and then scroll down to watch clips from the pep rally. And remember:Be Kind. . . Pass It On!Click here for more photos!
