Each year, 5th graders participate in "Battle of the Books". They read books on a variety of topics in different genres. They work in groups to create shields to represent their teams (click here to see their shields as well as a list with summaries of this year's books). Then they compete in a contest answering questions based on the books. This year, students read more books than ever before! They also shined brightly during the competition, as each team correctly answered numerous questions, over several weeks. The final competition was close, but the "Party Penguins" team from Mrs. Szelingowski's class emerged as the winners. Congratulations to Jeffrey Xu, Sakshi Dave, Eshani Vora, Sydney Leigh, Ray Oji, and Eric Brekhman for a job well done!
