Many people avoid new things on Friday the 13th. Not the staff and students at Harrison School! January 13th was the perfect day to "mix it up". Under the organization of Mrs. Siti, our Guidance Counselor, everyone was assigned a color and reported to a classroom designated as that color (thanks to helpful 5th graders who assisted the kindergarten students in finding their way). All grade levels were mixed, and for many of the younger children it was their first venture up to the top level of the school! Students watched an inspiring video about Olympic runner Usain Bolt, and then created superhero shields with positive words and images. As students thought about the goals they are working on reaching, we all joined together to dance to "The Power of Yet." This special activity was not the end of the mixing, however. At lunchtime, children sat at different tables (special thanks to Mrs. Pellegrino and Ms. Prupis from the PTA for decorating our cafeterias!) and made more new friends. Judging by the smiles, it was truly a successful day:
