Want to know what it feels like to be an immigrant headed to Ellis Island at the turn of the century? Or a colonist fighting for liberty during the American Revolution? Harrison students do, thanks to the latest cultural arts program sponsored by our generous PTA. On April 4th, 2nd and 3rd graders witnessed and participated in "Journey of an Irish Immigrant", while 4th and 5th graders did the same for "The American Revolution." Both programs -- significantly tied to the social studies curriculum -- were staged by Kitty Jones, who performs nearly 300 one-woman shows a year. Making history come alive is a specialty of this award-winning actress, who has created 17 shows depicting important events from various time periods and cultures (click here to find out more). Engaging the audience with her humor, knowledge of her subject, ability to improvise, and her gentle persuasion in getting staff and students to participate, made the experience highly educational and richly rewarding.
